Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

DO YOU DO ONLINE RETURNS?
Yes, since the start of Covid-19 we have done most of the returns online. In-fact it is our preferred way of preparing the tax returns for both existing and new clients. We will call you for a phone interview, prepare a detailed checklist, and prepare the return and supporting documents and load it on the secure MYOB portal. You can review and approve (electronically sign) the return on the portal. You can also mark some items for review if you have further questions.
I AM A NEW CLIENT. CAN YOU RETURNS ONLINE?
Yes, however, the ATO requires us to identify you first. That being the case, we require Photo ID and some digital means to see your face to verify your identity during the interview. This is generally required for the first return only.
WHAT IS THE CHARGE FOR PREPARATION OF INDIVIDUAL TAX RETURNS?
The fee for individual tax return preparation depends upon the complexity of income and deductions involved. The fee for basic individual tax return starts from $176 (incl. GST) paid at the time the return is completed. Additional charge of $25 (incl. GST) applies if the payment is made fee from refund. Our fee is tax deductible in the year paid.
WHAT IS THE CHARGE FOR COMPLEX TAX RETURNS?
Complex returns are charged based on the time spent on the job. Certain income items including trusts, business etc. and deductions like motor vehicle, depreciation, investment property, sale of property, crypto-currency, sale of shares etc. are complex and require additional time.
WHAT IS THE CHARGE FOR PROPERTY RETURN?
Where the supporting information has been provided in an organised manner, the fee of $220 (incl GST) applies. We do not charge extra for multiple owners sharing the same property.

WHAT IS THE CHARGE FOR BUSINESS RETURNS?
The fee for business returns and compliance work depends upon the complexity and the time involved. The rates vary from $165-$330 (incl. GST) per hour. We are happy to provide detailed guidance and quote prior to commencement of work. Our fee is tax deductible in the year paid.

CAN FEES BE TAKEN FROM MY REFUND?
Yes, where a client is getting a refund, we may allow a deduction from the ATO refund. However, there are factors (like HEC’s debt, child support payments, other debts to ATO and Centrelink etc.) taken into account, before your offer of fee deduction is accepted. A fee of $25 per transaction applies.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I DO NOT HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTS?
ATO Prefill data is generally not available until 15th July. We encourage, that you book appointment after 15 Jul. Please also check all supporting documents before booking appointments. It is an offence to claim deductions for expenses that cannot be substantiated.
ON WHAT BASIS IS THE TAX RETURN PREPARED?
We use the information, documentation and advice given to us by you to prepare your tax return. Our role is to take reasonable care in preparing the return. We are not responsible for auditing and/or verifying your evidence. It is the responsibility of the taxpayer to keep evidence of all claims. Severe penalties exist in the tax legislation for false and/or misleading claims.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY REFUND?
Australian Tax Office (ATO) processes majority of the returns within 14 working days. Delays may be possible where the ATO may match the data with Centrelink and other organisations.
WOULD YOU RETAIN MY DOCUMENTS IF ANY FEE REMAINS UNPAID AFTER THE SERVICES HAVE BEEN RENDERED?
Yes, we would continue to hold lien over all your documents until the fee has been paid in full. We may also take legal action or other measures to recover our fee.
WHAT ARE YOUR OFFICE HOURS?
We are generally available between 9.00am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday. We can take pre-appointments for Saturday and after-hours. Booking is necessary for Saturday and after-hours booking. These hours apply from 1st Jul to 30th Oct only.
CAN YOU PREPARE MULTIPLE YEARS RETURNS AT THE SAME TIME?
Yes, a number of year’s tax returns can be done at the same time, however, the older returns may need to be lodged in paper and there may be some delays in assessment by the ATO.
